Traditional Funeral Services
As most families in our immediate service area are still considered “traditional”, the personalization of those services are anything but. We will help plan and conduct any service that is customized to fit your families needs or style. From personalized caskets, burial vaults and memorial folders and anything in between. These types of services would be considered viewing/visitation with open casket followed by a church/chapel or graveside service followed by earth burial.

We take extra care in preparation and restoration, and will do all that is possible to ensure a positive lasting memorial picture that hopefully will be comforting. We have been serving the area for four generations and are well informed of the traditions of the area. Our staff has extensive knowledge of the area churches and cemeteries and know the contacts to eliminate any burdens on our families.

We offer caskets from many major suppliers and do not limit ourselves to just one company. Our selections change constantly and we can have anything any company we represent within a day. We maintain Batesville, Aurora, Clarksburg, Marsellus, Triangle-Atlantic, Southside and Edgecombe Casket Companies products. Like our caskets, our burial vaults are provided from the two leading vault suppliers in the USA. We offer concrete burial vaults from Arnold-Wilbert Corporation out of Goldsboro, NC and our steel burial vaults are from Clark Grave Vault Company out of Columbus, OH.

Cremation Services
Some families are opting out of truly “Traditional Services” for those that include cremation as an alternative. We offer many different types of cremation services that will fit into you and your families desires. Our experiences have shown that cremation services with some sort of ceremony help mediate within a family that may have some family members that may be opposed to it. Our suggestion is to thoroughly gain information and let your wishes be known to all involved. It is North Carolina statute that there is a 24 hour waiting period between time of death and time that cremation can proceed. Only in certain situations would this ever become a problem.

A few of the options available are first, “Cremation with a Ceremonial Tribute Service.” This would include viewing/visitation and memorial tribute service with more traditional customs that prove to be helpful to many who experience the loss of a loved one. This type of service allows families an opportunity to acknowledege the death and publicly memorialize their family member prior to cremation. After the cremation, you may bury, entomb, scatter or maintain the remains for future burial or keep in your home in one of the many personalized or sculptured urns available. We also offer memorial and keepsake jewelry from several of the major suppliers, the options are many.

Second would be “Cremation with a Gathering of Remembrance.” This would be considered a less traditional alternative for some families. Usually the cremation would have taken place prior. Then a gathering of family and friends for a visitation at the funeral home or other location(including families home) and a memorial service to celebrate the life that was lived as to create memories that will never fade. Followed by the same endings as available in the aforementioned.

Thirdly, “Cremation with Graveside Service”. Again, cremation would be handled prior to the service. It is a thoughtful, either casual or formal service at the graveside that would be handled just as any Traditional Graveside service would be held. Usually with participation from clergy, family or friends with singing, reading and sharing of stories and memories as part of this tribute.

Lastly would be a “Non-Ceremonial Cremation”. We understand each families needs and desires are unique to them. We also know that some families chose to handle things in their own way and on their own time, this option gives you the flexibility to do whatever you feel is proper.

Green Burials
We can answer questions regarding and handle green burials. Our first green burial was actually held in the mid 90's with several since then. In the areas we serve, green burials on your own land can be performed easily with no permits or special authorizations being required. In fact many of the cemeteries in the area will also allow such practices. If there are no cemetery requirements for the use of outer burial containers, they would also fit into this category.

Disinterment / Reinterment
This is the process of moving an individual or multiple graves from one location to another. We have provided this service over the years for many people for several different reasons. We are able to handle this from any location, and will file all the necessary permits and arrange for relocation. Next-of-kin would be required to sign the disinterment/reinterment permit prior.

Consider Preplanning

Advanced Funeral Planning, also commonly known as pre-planning or pre-arranging, is simply taking care of funeral service details before the need arises. It is been our experience, that people that pre-plan their own, or other family members services, gain a great sense of relief and satisfaction that their wishes will be taken care of as they desire. It enables you to make all decisions calmly without leaving your family to make difficult choices during an emotional and vulnerable time.

Pre-planning can be as simple as providing basic information, the type of services and merchandise to be used, all the way to completing and funding an irrevocable funeral contract that covers every detail from services, merchandise, flowers and monuments.

Funding can be achieved in several different ways. We are able to open a trust account with any amount of money that you are comfortable with and making payments that fit into your budget, to a single pay contract that is fully protected from inflation from the day the deposit is made.

We offer single payment insurance funded plans through Homesteaders Life Company in Des Moines, Iowa and trust funded plans through all First Citizens, BB&T and Southern Banks.

We at Blaylock Funeral Home know that this is sometimes uncomfortable for some people to discuss but will always try to make our families feel at ease. We are available for a “no obligation” counseling daily to discuss what is available to you and provide the best option for you. All that we ask is that you call a day before to make an appointment as we are still a small town funeral home that never knows our schedules. There are no inappropriate questions and no correct or incorrect ways to handle a funeral service, we are only here to help you and your family and inform you of your options.

Other Basic Services
In addition to pre-need and at-need services, we take care of many other necessary items that are included in our basic charges or in many cases, at no charge. Some of these are authorizations and notifications that are required by law and some we do as a service that will be simply helping our families. Some of these would include:

  • We also maintain extensive records of death that date back into the mid 1800's. These may be and have been used for genealogy research. They are on hand for anyone that may be interested or that needs to search for a record.
  • We include memorial folders, register books, acknowlegement cards, laminated obituaries and the use of home equipment(chairs & register stand) in our basic service charge.
